British Shorthair

Calm, dignified and famously round-cheeked. Independent enough for working owners, affectionate on their own terms.

Living with a British Shorthair

The British Shorthair is the gentleman's cat: plush teddy-bear coat, round cheeks, and a calm self-possession that makes them the easiest pedigree cat to live with. They like company but don't demand it — perfect for owners who work full days.

BSHs show affection by simply being near you: on the sofa arm, at the end of the bed, supervising your cooking from a respectful distance. They're quiet, undemanding and famously good first cats.

Care notes

Kitten prep
  • Weekly brush normally, twice-weekly during seasonal shedding
  • Watch the calories — stocky builds gain weight quietly
  • They prefer floor-level cosy spots over high climbing; a snug bed beats a tall tree
  • Annual vet check + dental care keeps the plush machine running to 15+ years

Every family goes home with a written care plan — plus lifetime WhatsApp support for the 2am “is this normal?” questions.

Good to ask

British Shorthair questions

Are British Shorthairs OK alone during work hours?

Better than almost any other breed — they nap professionally and greet you (calmly) at the door. A puzzle feeder and a window perch cover the day shift.

Blue is classic — do other colours exist?

Plenty: lilac, cream, golden, silver tabby and more. Milo is a classic blue; if you're set on another colour, join the waitlist with your preference and we'll match you from a future litter.
